John is incredibly laid back and slow to anger. If he punches you in the face it’s no hard feeling, you were just putting your mug too close to Sophie’s basic proximity. He might buy you a drink afterward and you can chortle about it. He’s extremely terse and close-lipped for the most part and can go all day not saying a word, making him difficult to read and hard to approach most of the time, but if you’re brave you’ll find he’s actually pretty friendly (given he likes you). You should be warned, however, that John is very suspicious of strangers (part of his job) and he doesn’t miss a beat. He’s actually scarily smart. He won’t forget your face or details about you; he has a huge vocabulary, is a sort of mathematician, and is extremely observant. Just about no one knows this however, because, let’s face it, at what point in his job has he ever needed to show off his brains? John can usually be found content reading a comic book or a really heavy novel, trailing in Sophie’s tiny shadow. He’s no nonsense about his duty to protect her.

LOOKS LIKE

John looks like he could break you in half frankly. (In some cases he can.) Standing six feet even, weighing in at 220lbs, it’s small wonder this tank of a man is bouncing people’s skulls off stuff for money. He’s got the barrel-chested, heavily muscled build of someone who’s been doing some serious physical trials his entire life and maintained it for years. He’s fucking solid. John’s ethnicity is a grab bag of Italian and American mongrel cocktail but whatever it is, it gave him dark eyes and excellent good looks. He keeps his hair buzzed mostly (hold over from him time in the military) and his style is pretty typically jeans, boots and a jacket. He is startlingly comfortable, however, in expensive suits. Hollywood right?

HISTORY

August 3, 1972 John Harvey Lacrosse was born in the back seat of a Buick Lacrosse. Yeah. That was the only funny coinkydink of his birth. In the span of 48 hours his 21 year-old mother – who went prematurely into labor – died en route to the hospital. John lived his father during his early years, an unlucky and unfortunate man who ate his gun when John was 22. John had his Bachelors of Engineering when his father died, graduated top of his class, but couldn’t see himself doing anything in the actual engineering field. He’d only done engineering because he liked numbers and he’d only gone to college because he liked the academic environment and got a full scholarship for being dirt fucking poor and really damn smart.

After his father died, he needed some time to sort through his life and figure himself out. This in mind, he entered the military and undertook the long training regime to become a Navy SEAL. Again, he did this because he liked the environment and did exceptionally well. He was a natural leader not by personality or ambition but by mindset and stratagem. He grasped situations more quickly and didn’t hesitate. John got things done, led well, saved lives, and in the twelve years he served, generally felt that he’d found his direction. He left the military a decorated officer at the age of 34. He spent the next two years doing some traveling and came back home to LA after he’d worn out his need to wander.

His next job fell into his lap almost literally just days after he’d rolled into town. He’d been walking down Hollywood Boulevard and was tying his shoe when a throng of paparazzi and wild fans engulfed him unexpectedly. They were chasing some action movie super star and generally being all kinds of obnoxious. He felt sort of bad for the said superstar so he loomed a little and helped corral the guy to his limo with limited incident. The superstar told him he could see a security agency, that he'd totally put in a good word for him and get his name to some really great celebrities. Not one to argue with good fortune, he submitted his resume and was hired on by a teen starlet as a personal body guard.

Her name was Sophie Chevalier, the horror movie Hollywood baby and she took a shine to him. He roughed up a couple stalkers, looked scary and made bank son. Sure, it’s not rocket science, but he figured it was about time he did something less for the challenge and more for the function of the thing. He’s been patiently knocking heads together and looming impressively on the red carpet for the past two years.

SPECIAL ABILITIES/RANDOM FACTS

Has armed and unarmed combat training. Is a field medic in a pinch. Knows how to mix some serious drinks, son – you will be fucked up by the time he’s done. Ironically he’s also a light weight. (No one knows how.) Dances remarkably well. Expert astronavigator and mathematician. Has a severe allergy to morphine. Likes video games. Speaks decent Spanish and understandable Italian.

STRENGTHS

Secretly Smart: He’s deceptively fucking smart. His IQ was clocked once around 140. He can do complex sums rapidly and entirely in his head. He remembers things like Sherlock motherfucking Holmes and he’s got a humongous vocabulary. He knows stupid amounts of random factoids, lots of it about the gaming industry and comic books. He’s a strategist and a geek in badass clothing.

Navy Strong: He’s a former Navy SEAL and with that comes mental and physical strength of great value. He’s been beating the shit out of people for long as he can remember, leading men into combat, nearly died time and time again, faced some really tough stuff in his life. His fortitude is unmatched. (You need that kind of willpower to babysit baby starlets.)

Loyal: He is. To the death. You can’t ask for a better guardian.

WEAKNESSES

Weak Spot: John has a soft spot for women and children. He tends to get attached to people more readily that he should. Threats against those he’s determined to protect will set off his temper. Make him fairly murderous actually, but he absolutely will not jeopardize anyone. Risk to Sophie for example will stop him dead.

Bad Knee: War wound, messed up his right knee. It’s mostly unnoticeable, but he favors it in a fight. Tends to ache in the mornings from time to time.

Light Weight: Relatively speaking, it doesn’t take much to put John under the influence. His body doesn’t like foreign anything and it overly sensitive to it in some ways. Medication makes him loopy fast, he doesn’t drink much because it take so little to get him fuzzy.

Solo Act: He doesn’t make permanent friends. Rather he looks ahead to the time he will have to leave them and determines it’s not worth it. Because of this he’s gotten used to being on his own and estranged from close friendships. Sure, he’s friendly, but he’s not your friend per say. He also tends to act on his own, put himself in danger, and insist others let him take the brunt of the trouble.
